As the final project for POLI333z, I was free to produce any type of final project so long as it referenced the topics we studied in the course. I chose to write, and produce a podcast on the importance of community in activism. I did a fair bit of academic research and then decided that the podcast needed to be more than just me speaking.
I chose to interview the Director of the Table Community Food Centre in my hometown of Perth, ON. Ramsey Hart is a lifelong activist and a cornerstone of the activist community in Perth. My interview with him lasted over 30 minutes and became the centerpiece of my podcast.
I also recorded myself speaking for an introduction and conclusion, that included my academic research about the role of community in activism. I edited this and added the audio from the interview. I also added intro and outro music.
Together, the podcast is over 40 minutes long, with high-quality audio and intellectual content.
I learned a lot about interviewing and audio editing. I also learned about the importance of community in activism through my research.
