POLI 308: Teamwork

Communications / Leadership / project management / Social Media / Teamwork

Working in POLI 308 has shown me how important a good team is to achieving our goals in a project. We have created a clear project design in under two weeks and are well on our way to pulling it off.

Everyone has had the unpleasant experience of a group project that does not work smoothly. Maybe you're the only one doing work, or you all have different ideas, or one person is controlling everything. Regardless, we've all been there. In POLI 308, I got lucky. We are two weeks into a project and everything has been smooth sailing.

Together, we have managed to draft a clear project that we are all interested in and will fulfil the class requirements. We will be filming a set of short interviews and videos to be published to social media, on the topic of climate change. So far, we have created questionnaires for political candidates in the federal election, and topic-based questionnaires for the public, both based on our own research. We've succeeded in contacting all the main federal parties and have secured interviews with most of them. We have a set timeline for our video production and we will be publishing our first video next week.

This short time has shown me how much is possible when you are working with an effective team. We are keeping each other on track, encouraging each other and using all of our connections to achieve our goals.

Learning Significance

  1. I've learnt the importance of working with a good team and the complexities of federal Canadian politics. I am honing my interview skills and learning how to use my networks to get in touch with the right people.
