Since September, I have been working with the Canadian Wildlife Service (CWS), a branch of Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). One of my first tasks was to write backgrounders on Indigenous Nations and Organizations in BC.
I researched each specific organization, both online and in the ECCC files, to find information about the organization. I was looking for information about the facts of the community, such as location and language, and information about their relationship with CWS, BC, and the Government of Canada.
In the end, I created over 40 two- to five-page documents that will help the staff at CWS be more informed before engaging in relationships with Indigenous Nations and Organizations in BC.
This is an example of a backgrounder:

I learned a lot about the different Indigenous organizations in BC, while also learning how to write in a way that was appropriate for ECCC. This was a shift from academic writing, but since these documents were only intended for internal use, it was a good way to learn.
