There are over 200 Indigenous organizations in the province of BC, this includes treaty councils, stewardship alliances, individual nations, and many more. The Canadian Wildlife Service - Pacific Region (CWS-PAC) works with or communicates with many of these organizations on a regular basis. This means that it's important for the branch to understand and keep track of these relationships.
For this reason, CWS-PAC has developed a spreadsheet to hold all this information in one place. Since starting at CWS-PAC, I have become responsible for updating and editing this spreadsheet. This includes researching, compiling information from colleagues, manually inputting data into the spreadsheet, and updating formulas to include new data in the overall calculations.
Furthermore, I wrote and presented a presentation for my boss, to explain how the spreadsheet works and what information can be gathered from it. This required me to create graphs to represent the information contained in the spreadsheet. I learned about data visualization in Excel and took a course through the Canadian School of Public Service School to aid in my understanding of data visualization. This presentation and my visualizations will be presented to the head of CWS-PAC by my boss at a later date.
I learned how to use excel, specifically more about data visualization and formula use. As an Arts student, it was good to gain this tangible skill.
